Security basics that actually stop problems
Short answer: A $495 fixed-price Security Checkup for small businesses: passwords, MFA, backups, updates and email protection, with a plain-English report and ranked fix list.
Most small-business incidents come through a few doors: stolen passwords, phishing, missing backups and unpatched software. Close those first.
The Security Checkup is a $495 fixed-price review of the controls that matter most for a small business: passwords, multi-factor authentication, backups, updates, email protection and who has access to what. You get a plain-English report and a ranked fix list with costs.
What I look at
Sign-in and access
Password habits, MFA coverage, admin accounts, former-staff access, shared logins.
Backups
What is backed up, where it goes, how long it is kept, and a real restore test.
Devices and updates
Operating systems, key software, antivirus or endpoint protection, disk encryption, lost-device plan.
Email and phishing
Spam and phishing filters, SPF, DKIM and DMARC for your domain, and a short team briefing.
What you receive
- A short report anyone on your team can read
- A ranked fix list: what, why, who does it, cost
- The quick fixes done during the review where safe
- A credit of the Checkup fee toward Care plans if you continue within 30 days
What this is not
It is not a penetration test, a compliance certification (HIPAA, CMMC, PCI), or a guarantee that nothing can go wrong. It is the practical baseline that removes the most common risks. If your business handles regulated data, I will tell you what is outside my scope and who to ask. North Carolina law requires businesses holding residents' personal information to notify people after a breach, so knowing where that data lives matters; see the checklist.
